Pet Shop Boys have completed work on their new album.

The final mixes were completed today, and the album has a release date of March 23rd, as long as conditions stay favorable. The official site has more information, along with a message from Neil Tennant.

Neil Tennant has written and sung a few lines in the forthcoming Christmas single, “Joseph (Better You Than Me)”, by The Killers featuring Elton John and Neil Tennant. The song began as a Killers/Elton John collaboration and then Brandon Flowers asked Neil to help out with some lyrics. We are informed that the digital-only release will be in December with proceeds going to charity.

Recording and mixing of all tracks for the new Pet Shop Boys album are approaching completion. Neil, Chris and Brian Higgins will be approving final mixes in the next two weeks. Parlophone have suggested a provisional release date of March 23rd, 2009 (this may and probably will change!).

The band’s frontman Brandon Flowers said Tennant joined the song, which also features Sir Elton John, after the band hit a creative wall in the studio.

“We’d hit a block, and Neil came upstairs. Within moments, he came up with a great line about ‘Going to the carpenter’s shop’,” Flowers told Planet Sound.

Pet Shop Boys to collect Outstanding Contribution to Music Brit.

The Pet Shop Boys will collect the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at next year’s Brit Awards, it was announced.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe will be honoured with the award at the ceremony on February 18, the UK’s recorded music association, the BPI, said.

The pioneering dance duo, known for their chart-topping hits including West End Girls and It’s A Sin, will perform live on the show at Earls Court.
