Disco 4 announced.

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Disco 4, the latest installment in the Pet Shop Boys remix album series has been announced. The project, released in the UK on September 27th, focuses mostly on remixes on tracks performed by other artists and features the following tracklisting:

  1. The Killers, “Read My Mind (PSB Stars Are Blazing mix)”
  2. David Bowie with Pet Shop Boys, “Hallo Spaceboy (PSB Extended mix)”
  3. Pet Shop Boys, “Integral (PSB Perfect Immaculate mix)”
  4. Yoko Ono, “Walking On Thin Ice (PSB Electro mix)”
  5. Madonna, “Sorry (PSB Maxi-mix)”
  6. Atomizer, “Hooked On Radiation (PSB Orange Alert mix)”
  7. Rammstein, “Mein Teil (PSB There Are No Guitars On This mix)”
  8. Pet Shop Boys, “I’m with Stupid (PSB Maxi-mix)”

I was actually just wondering if they’d ever do this sort of thing while sorting through my remixes by the duo. I’m glad to see “Hooked On Radiation” getting a proper release, and judging by the title alone, that remix of “Integral” will be the ultimate in political dance tunes this fall.

Neil Tennant interviewed by Fridae.

Fridae.com features a typical pre-concert interview with the Pet Shop Boys vocalist, most notable for the following:

What’s next on the calendar for you, then?

We’re headliners of the Summer Sonic Festival, which is in Tokyo and Osaka. We’ve been on tour [for a] year now - this tour finishes in October.

In 2004 we wrote a musical score for the silent film, Battleship Potemkin, and we did that for a concert in Trafalgar Square in London. We’ll be bringing that to Russia and the Ukraine.

The next thing we’re going to write is an electronic music ballet to be performed in London. And I’d also like to write some new pop songs.

An electronic music ballet. Huh. I do actually quite like the music for Battleship Potemkin, and most of the songs from Closer To Heaven, so I’m be curious to see what the end result of this project will be.

(And can someone please tell the people that run the official website that some sort of RSS feed or the like from their “news” page would be very appreciated? Thanks!)

Odd, Random Thought

By placing “Opportunities” just prior to “Integral” on the current tour’s set list and having the first song segue seemlessly into the second, Pet Shop Boys are providing fans with a danceable condemnation of those profiteering from the war on terror and related efforts to force national ID cards onto the populace.

Clever, that.
